About Us

Protection and Empowerment of Naari

PENN is a Chennai-based NGO founded in response to the series of heinous crimes against women in 2019 — with a proactive, preventive, 360° approach to women's safety.

Why We Started

After the country witnessed a wave of horrific crimes against women towards the end of 2019, a group of socially conscious professionals from Chennai came together to launch a movement — not a reactive one, but a proactive one.

PENN — Protection and Empowerment of Naari — operates at four levels simultaneously: individual, community, governance and judiciary. This multi-layered approach is what makes PENN different.

We are Ministry of Corporate Affairs certified for CSR funding (CSR 00053163), 80G certified for tax-exempt donations, and have a distinguished Advisory Board including a retired Madras High Court judge, a retired IPS DGP, an IAS officer, and national figures in sports and arts.
